Start with a consultation
A good stylist welcomes a consultation. It is a low-pressure way to meet, talk through your hair, and see if you click before committing to a big change. If a salon will not make time to listen first, that tells you something.
Bring photos, and not just of what you want
Inspiration photos are the clearest way to show what you are picturing. Bring two or three, and if it helps, a photo of what you do NOT want. You do not need salon vocabulary. Describe how you want your hair to feel, like low-maintenance, easy to air dry, or fuller, and a good stylist will translate it.
Be honest about your routine
