Highlights or balayage? How to choose

Both lighten your hair, but upkeep is the deciding factor. Balayage is hand-painted off the root for a soft grow out and four to five months between visits. Highlights are foiled from the root for brighter, more even colour, but the regrowth shows sooner, so most clients refresh every six to eight weeks. Choose highlights when you want maximum, uniform brightness, and balayage when you want low-maintenance. We can also blend the two, called foilayage, and will recommend the right mix at your consultation.

Keeping your highlights bright

Use a sulphate-free, colour-safe shampoo and a purple shampoo once or twice a week to stop brassiness. Wash less often when you can, since heat and water fade colour fastest. A weekly mask keeps lightened ends healthy, and a heat protectant before styling protects your investment. Most clients book a touch-up every six to eight weeks, with a gloss in between to refresh the tone.
